The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) has established requirements to ensure increased security and safeguards at nuclear sites to deal with the threat of terrorism including an airplane crash into a reactor. According to CNSC requirements for new build as well as existing plants, nuclear reactors should be structurally designed to withstand high impact airborne threats, such as the impact of a large passenger airplane.
