As a british national Am I exempt from New York City Sales TAX, if i ship the goods back to the UK for resale?

Your nationality is irrelevant, the rule is that you do not pay NY sales tax on goods shipped directly to an address outside New York State. So you have three choices; 1. You can have the goods shipped directly to you in UK and there will be no NY sales tax payable. However, instead you will have to pay shipping to UK and VAT at the UK end. They are pretty efficient at collecting this. It will be a lot more than the 8.5% sales tax! 2. You can buy the goods, pay the NY tax and take the goods in your luggage and claim that they are your personal property so that you don't get hit with VAT at the UK end. Best if they are not in their original packaging/sales labels are removed and clothes look used. Six laptops might look a little obvious but otherwise, customs at Heathrow are very relaxed and I have never seen anyone even be asked to open a suitcase. 3. You could order the goods on line before you come and ask for shipment to a friend with an out of state address like New Jersey.  more
