As soon as the ECFA is signed, will large quantities of Mainland agricultural goods be imported, and will Mainland laborers come to Taiwan to steal our employment opportunities?
A29. Pres. Ma has already promised that he will ot further open up the import of Mainland agricultural products?and ot permit Mainland laborers to come to Taiwan.?During the ECFA negotiations, the government will firmly adhere to these positions. These promises will remain unchanged. In addition, before May 20, 2000, we opened the import of only 479 agricultural product items from the Mainland. During the eight-year Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) administration, 934 product items were added early double the original number. Therefore, during his campaign for office, Pres. Ma had already promised not to permit more agricultural imports, in order to prevent Taiwan agriculture from being further impacted.
