The answer is yes on both counts. There’s been some concern about Brawl’s widescreen support over the past few months, because the vast majority of screenshots released by Nintendo have not been in 16:9 – but that’s a deficiency of the Big N’s screen capturing techniques, not the game itself. Look to the 16:9 videos that have been released for a better idea of what it will really look like on your high-end TV. Update: On November 27, game director Masahiro Sakurai provided more details for how the different display modes work. In addition to concern over whether or not the game would even support widescreen, there’s also been a question up in the air about how Super Smash Bros. would handle the transition into the longer display. After all, this is a series where the boundaries of the screen play a big part in the gameplay – getting knocked off the edge of the visible area means you’ve lost a life. So Sakurai addressed that potential issue, confirming that the “borders of death” would
