It is suggested that a child should be taken for orthodontic consultation by age seven. The orthodontist evaluates the alignment, bite & relationship between upper & lower jaw. According to the need, dentist starts orthodontic treatment to guide bone growth, treat joint disorder, correct teeth alignment. Most of the orthodontic treatments start at age of 13. So if you feel your child's teeth is poorly aligned you can visit to the dentist when a child is 13-14 have made with the development of adult orthodontics having braces is possible for adults also.
