Many were Anglicans, some were Puritans. Puritanism was a branch of Anglicanism. Some of the Puritans took the opportunity of persecuting people who were not Puritans. There were also many Presbyterians from Scotland who often went south. Later there were many Lutherans, Roman Catholics and Jews, They mostly were not Baptists who seem to support a relatively late form of heresy. The USA is favoured because of a regular and mostly mild climate, fertile soils provided by the Yellowstone caldera, mineral, oil and coal resources that remained virtually untouched until 250 years ago and because the immigrants brought basic literacy and relatively high technology with them from Europe, mostly from Britain but also from France and Germany. During the 19th century Americans, aided by their courts, (not invented here) stole this technology en masse without regard to patents or any form of intellectual property, just as the Chinese are doing today. The transcontinental railways and telegraph sys
