Though the use of bamboo flooring is relatively new in North America, there are presently many importers. The majority of the bamboo flooring brought into the U.S. and Canada is grown and manufactured in China, though it seems to be found throughout SE Asia and the South Pacific region. Not all bamboo flooring is the same either. Though the Mao Tzu variety is used by Sustainable Flooring, flooring made from other species is also found. This can affect relative hardness of the floor. Also, it seems that not all bamboos are treated (meaning transforming the pulp starch to a dense medium) with the same level of "thoroughness". If a significant amount of the pulp is still starch when the floor is installed, there is the possibility that certain insects can begin devouring the floor and essentially cause its destruction. There are also manufacturing differences in the planks, which differ mainly in thickness, width, and length.
