The convict notion is a complete load of bull dust.It is true that convicts were sent to Australia for crimes such as stealing a loaf of bread or a potato,others included prostitutes thieves and pickpockets.Convicts were here along with thousands of other paying immigrants from England Ireland Wales and Scotland.The reason they were deported was because the English jails were full,and many convicts were housed on prison ships in English ports. They were put to work building government buildings churches bridges and roads under very harsh conditions,many of the buildings still exist today Many so called convicts were to become successful and respectable people in the new colony.
