Bipolar disorder: Does anyone know if malicious and manipulative behaviour is an aspect of the illness?

No and maybe. Malicious and manipulative behaviour is much more classic personality disorder. Borderline sometimes is a comorbid to bipolar. When someone with bipolar is in an agitated state, she can snap and anger easily. That can appear as malicious to some. It’s not a planned or intentional act, however. It’s instant and reactive. So, malicious doesn’t really fall under bipolar unless someone is misunderstanding the behaviour or the word. Ppl with bipolar can appear to be liars at times, but this is when a person is covering up that she can’t remember because her head is racing too fast. It’s hiding the effects of the illness, not living a manipulative life. Manipulation can come in for some when they are very grandiose with wonderful plans that all should follow along. This is a pretty significan manic state and those who know the person s/be able to spot it. In all cases, the behaviour stops when the episode stops. Ppl w/bipolar do not behave this way during periods of normalcy. S
