As far as I know, a brown recluse bite is far more dangerous than a black widow. My friend got bitten while hiking and his leg ballooned up to a huge size! It doesn't sound too bad what you're describing, but if he really thinks a recluse bit him, he needs to go to the emergency room!  more

My aunt was bit by one and that is exactly what it looks like on the first day. It resembles a mosquito bite and quickly accelerates from there. Tell him to keep his appointment. This bite can make its way into the bone and need surgery.  more
