Can a claims administrator switch from one mode of transmission to another, for example from VAN transmission to e-mail?
A31. Yes. In fact, it is even possible for a given claims administrator to use multiple modes of transmission simultaneously. For example, a claims administrator could process its own First Reports and transmit them via e-mail attachments, while having its Subsequent Reports prepared by an EDI service provider and transmitted over a VAN. A separate Trading Partner Profile would have to be completed for each different transmission option. A claims administrator can change transmission option(s) at any time by sending an updated Trading Partner Profile to replace a profile sent previously.
