It is commonly perceived that a democratic system is better than a dictatorship and we have a democracy in the US. Yet hard working Americans spend good chunk of their lives in the corporate setting, which is hardy a democratic. In fact democracy ends at the gate of any corporation. What begins is an autocracy at best or a dictatorship at worse. Following this line of thinking, one can wonder if bringing a democracy to a corporation can make corporations better, the same way as democracy is better than a authoritarian rule on the scale of a country. True, some say that a democratic corporation could be very slow and unable to align itself to effectively respond to competitive threats. But the potential of using the best of people’s abilities could be enormous. I have not seen yet a democratic corporation lurking somewhere in the wilderness.
