Can a male and female beta fish share a tank?

OK, so you have 3 fish and two tanks and all 3 fish must be kept apart from each other because the males are territorial and the female is defenseless. The best solution as I see it is to find a quart jar or bigger that you can put the female betta in and if there is room, you can put this jar inside the larger of your tanks. The main benefit of putting the jar inside the tank is so there can be some interaction between the bettas but they can not hurt each other. The male will not be able to jump into the jar and the female will only jump out if she is ready and willing to breed which won’t be for a very long time. In the mean time, you will need to clean her water once a week every week. You could also keep the female in a jar outside the tank but that’s up to you.
