Can a miscarriage be misdiagnosed and can the embryo still be growing?
YES, these things can and often are misdiagnosed. There are many such stories. Women have been told they were miscarrying, only to go on and find that the baby was fine. I’m not trying to give you false hopes. I don’t know why the doctor told you that. Were you bleeding? Having terrible cramps? Was there no heartbeat? Whenever it comes to a human life, a doctor’s opinion is not enough; you need proof that the baby has truly passed away if you’re going to have anything done to remove the little body. There have been numerous women who were told to have a D&C or take a pill to remove the baby, but they gave it some more time–a week or so–and waited for their bodies to just remove the baby naturally, and it has often happened that the baby was not actually dead and continued to grow. Doctors make mistakes and ultrasounds can be wrong; when the baby is very tiny, it can be hard to find the heartbeat, and all that’s needed is a little more time for it to be picked up.
