Can a simple electric motor use as a generator?

Judging by its nominal speed this is a 3 phase, 4 pole induction motor and if you employ it as an induction generator it could basically function. However there are a few conditions and considerations: 1. It will need to run on a fixed frequency source in order to generate (it’s an asynchronous machine so it needs something to be asynchronous with). On its own it will not generate any power. This means you’ll have to connect it to your mains supply and generate back into that which your electricity supplier may not allow. So you would always have to be sure that your power consumption from the mains over your meter is in every instant greater than your generated power into the meter. By the way, since you own a 3 phase motor I’m assuming you have a 3 phase supply to hook up to! The sine waves you generate will be those of your supply voltage. [NOTE To have an independent generator you’d need to have a synchronous machine which would probably have 2 sliprings on the rotor which need to
