Can a woman sue her husband for alimony after only 2 yrs. of marriage & no children?

A friend in his 70s married a woman 2 yrs. ago.She immediately quit her job. She’s in her 60s.This was her 8th marriage, his 3rd.She’s now going to try to get alimony based on retiring early from her job which offered benefits. She claims he verbally asked her to & promised to take care of her.He denies it. I’ve looked all over the place on the web and can’t find anything concerning a verbal contract or obligation to care for a wife financially after only 2 yrs. of marriage. There’s no other woman or man involved. He just got fed up with her sitting on her butt all day doing nothing but spending his money. She told him in TN as long as her income was less than his she could get alimony. Is this true?
