Can Albany hit the ground running?
Five straight losses to start the season, four of those by a single goal, put Albany in a hole it spent the rest of the season trying to dig itself out of. Despite going 8-3 after that, the Great Danes failed to make the NCAA tournament and are hungry to make a splash in 2009. “We felt like we underachieved last season,” Marr said. “This year, we’re working a little harder and we’re more focused.” Marr also said the 18 freshmen they had last season have had time to get acclimated, and that has made a huge difference in the team’s chemistry. With five of the team’s eight losses being by one goal, Albany will have to get off to a strong start and continue to do the little things in order to be successful. Albany will also count on the performance of seniors Corey Small, John Alpizar and Chris Schongar to get the team off on the right foot.
