Yes, some employers can fax your doctor to confirm that you were indeed in the office at that time. Depending on the circumstances of the visit, the clinic may or may not be able to release the information of your whereabouts. Most commonly the clinics do not release the information. An employer cannot verify the exact reason the excuse note was created. For example, they cannot ask why you were given the doctors excuse note. Your medical information is confidential and is kept with your doctor. Your employer can, however, attempt to submit the job description to the doctor on your note and ask if you’re able to do the things mentioned within. They may also call the clinic to confirm that you were indeed in and out of the office on the date stated on the excuse note. It is the clinics choice on which information they choose to release.
