Can an older babys death be attributed to SIDS?
Some won’t term a baby’s death SIDS if the baby was younger than a month, or older than 6 months, or in some cases older than a year. There are guidelines, but it seems that nobody absolutely must follow them because the stories on this site from families shows a wide variety of ages and terms for cause of death being used. Oftentimes a child older than a year is considered to have been a victim of SUDC – Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood. There have even been teenagers and adults die in the same manner as a SIDS baby – given a different name though, such as SADS – Sudden Adult Death Syndrome.
