Can antibiotics help chronic bronchitis?
In general, antibiotics are not considered an effective treatment for chronic bronchitis. Antibiotics can be helpful if you get a lung infection along with your chronic bronchitis. Lung infections first present with an increase in the amount of mucus you cough up. Also, this mucus might be discolored; either yellow or dark green. Fever usually accompanies this type of infection. Finally, shortness of breath might get worse.
