Can any NiMH recharger be used with any NiMH battery?
I used to design battery chargers and batteries, so perhaps my views can be helpful for you. In most cases, it’s best to charge a battery using a charger that’s designed for it unless you know for sure that they are compatible. Here are some of the things to look out for: Voltage & current: NiMH is just the material set type. it doesn’t say anything about what voltage the batteries are. Using the charger designed to charge a higher voltage battery on a low voltage battery could potentially cause interesting effects: smoke, fire, even explosion. at the very least, it could damage the battery you are trying to charge. Battery contacts and polarity: these might be different. the battery might not charge or it could be shorted, which could also cause fireworks. Smart Chargers: Many chargers have some built-in, limited intelligence.
