Can anybody tell me how to obtain a prefix number for telephoning South Island New Zealand?
You don’t say where you are, so that makes it a little harder to give you an accurate answer. The international code for New Zealand is 64 and all of the south island is covered by the area code 03. New Zealand land line telephone numbers usually consist of seven digits. So, if you are outside New Zealand you need to dial the international access code, plus 643 then the local number you require – e.g. from the UK you would dial 00643xxxxxxx; from America it would be 011643; from Australia 0011643; and so on. If you are in New Zealand then you simply dial 03 for the south island followed by the local number you require – e.g. 03xxxxxxx.
