I would suspose that NHS is similar to “welfare” or Medicaid in the United States. NHS and of Medicaid only pays for prosthesis that are absolutely necessary to life and limb. Though the appearance of a child with a flat head does bother one,it does not compromise the brain therefore NHS does not deem it as a necessity. Depending on the age of the child,their bones are still soft and if the mother will start letting the child lay on different sides of her head,it is possible the shape will start to change. It is my understanding after seeing a segment on Good Morning America on ABC that this requires the helmet for reshaping of the skull after the child reaches the age of 2 or 3 but it is purely for looks.
