Can anyone call SSA to verify that I have filed for Social Security disability benefits?
The information you have provided to SSA is confidential and will be discussed only with you with a few exceptions: if you want someone else to help you with your Social Security business, SSA needs your permission to provide your information to and/or discuss your case with that person. In fact, if you call SSA yourself, you might notice that they ask you questions to verify your identify. There are occasions when SSA can share your information with others, such as other government agencies that administer health or welfare programs, such as Medicaid or food stamps. Those agencies are not allowed to share your information with anyone else.
