Can anyone give me the location of a memorial stone to a blizzard victim on the Derbyshire moors?
Arriving at the B1396 a right turn was made. In the field opposite the junction there is the remains of a test bore done for coal, the site was destined to become a coal mine for the Isle of Axholme. It did not happen. Following the main road and riding over the Lincolnshire County Boundary the riders past a memorial stone by the side of the road. It was erected in memory of Thomas Wagstaff, John Whitehead & Sarah Binks who were killed on the night of 11th February 1860, when their horse drawn carriage over turned on their return journey from Doncaster market.
