Ok, techinically this is a member of the ficus family, Ficus elastica. But they're still worth considering, as they easily adapt to a limited amount of sunlight. Here is a basic summary of culture as recommended by the Clemson Extension Office: "Rubber plants prefer bright <a rel="nofollow" href="http://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheets/HGIC1450.htm">light</a> but are adaptable to low light. They grow best with the morning light from an east window. They do well in warm to average room temperatures. The ideal temperatures are 60 to 65 ° F at night and 75 to 80 ° F during the day." I also did a search for Rubber Plants in association with the word toxic, and they appear to be of low toxicity. Meaning, you'll want to supervise your pets and children to make sure they're not feasting. But they're not especially dangerous.
