There are only a few things you can do with a decayed tooth (depending on the amount of decay): 1) fill it, 2) pull it, 3) replace it. If the tooth has only minor decay, it can be filled (amalgam is standard, but there are various “tooth colored” options as well. Those are more expensive). If the tooth has major decay where the pulp is all or mostly gone, the nerve is damaged, and/or the shell of the tooth is largely eaten away, the cheap solution is pulling it. But then you have the problem of an unsightly gap. It also can cause major shifting of your remaining teeth, if you don’t have some sort of space-maintainer installed in the gap. The best solution is root canal and crowning. It’s permanent and virtually indestructible. But it’s the most expensive option.
