Can companies (primarilybuyers) exercise Force Majeure in this economic conditions?

‘Force Majeure’ clause not only contains – Act of God – but also includes some event which are not in control of the supplier or buyer. Most of the companies did not foresee this comming and they established long term contracts which they cannot execute as agreed, otherwise they will go bankrupt. I would like to have some views on this topic.
