Can condensed Tomato Soup be substituted for tomato paste in a Chili recipe?

I would like to make chili, but I do not have the three small cans of tomato paste the recipe calls for. I do have some condensed tomato soup. Can I use the soup instead? I will mention that I am far from a cook, so if this is a bad idea I understand.
