Discoverer stores summary data in materialized views in Oracle9i (release 8.1.6 and higher). Any application that is aware of materialized views benefits from the query rewrite. In case your database does not support materialized views, Discoverer can also create and maintain summary data in standard tables where it is not possible to use materialized views.
