Can EGM resolve the party crisis?
Some MCA leaders refuse to admit that MCA has been caught in a party crisis. They believe that the dispute can be resolved through negotiations and other means. Is it possible for the two factions to talk? Even if the current situation cannot be described as a party crisis yet, the party is still facing a split. And if the situation continues, MCA will sure be seriously affected. As the war of words brings no benefit to either of the factions, the Ong and Chua factions may still follow the party’s discipline and maintain their friendships in the beginning of the fight. But later, they may have personal attacks and take any means, including death threatening SMSes received by leaders of the Ong faction in Penang. In the MCA history, the party’s struggle could be very frightening as many party members had been acting irrationally. Some threw chairs and did something humiliating at the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) on 23 June 2001. MCA members can easily fall into enthusiasm in orde
