Oil prices reached record highs last summer, giving an indirect boost to the renewables industry. The price of gas, which is used in the generation of electricity, tends to follow the price of oil. As oil climbed to almost $150 a barrel, so the economics of renewable energy generation improved. That all changed when the oil price came crashing down, taking the environmental sector with it.
