Can female guinea pigs change gender?
No, Guinea pigs definately cannot change their sex. Sometimes, people (and pet stores in particular are bad for this) have difficulty telling the sex of an animal, which often results in people accidentally adopting a pet of the wrong sex, and is a common cause of accidental breeding. It is possible that you are only allowed to get female guinea pigs because it is common for males to fight. However- if you get male guinea pigs from a young age they are often fine to keep together- just as long as there is not a female guinea pig present, because they can start to cause fights over the female. Males can be tricky to look after because of their tendancy to fight, but many people are now keeping males together without a problem.
NO they cannot change genders. Guinea pigs are animals with distinct male and female genders, unlike certain sea slugs that are both female and male. As far as I know, no mammal can change their gender unless it was by surgery. Seriously, whoever came up with these animal myths ought to stay quiet. What is wrong with you getting a male guinea pig? One of the reasons I wasn’t allowed to have a male hamster once was because my parents didn’t want me to see its penis, which was the stupidest reason I’ve ever heard… The other reason could be that “male guinea pigs pee all over everything and are naughty more, compared to females” which is also a lie. Go ask why you can’t have a certain gender, because that is plain strange.
