Can Gallstones Cause Problems in Pregnancy?
In general, the chances of a gallstone resulting in problems with a pregnancy are very low. In actuality, only about 1 in every 1,000 pregnant women will have gallstones that have the potential to cause issues with the pregnancy. Some complications that may occur in these rare cases are nausea, vomiting, severe pain and sometimes a bacterial infection. If an infection is present, a pregnant woman will most likely develop a fever as well. These symptoms can be caused by a gallstone moving to block a duct, which is most likely the reason for the severe pain. In pregnant women, eating fatty foods may increase the risk of having symptoms with gallstones.
