Can halogen lights be used to grow plants?
On One Hand: Halogen Provides the Right Light SpectrumHalogen lights often provide the right light spectrum for most plants. While some plants require different or specialized light spectrums, most will flourish under the light given off by a halogen light. On the Other: Heat is a FactorHalogen lights often get too hot for plants. This intense heat can cause burning of the leaves, roots and flowers of the plant. The heat also causes water to be evaporated out of the soil, making the plant difficult to maintain.Bottom LineIf you plan on using halogen lights at the top of a tall room as ceiling lighting, plants can benefit from the light source. Do not use halogen lights for plants at lower levels or near the plants–the heat will be too intense for the plant.
