It is a delicate process to shorten the wick, but that is what you need to do if you want to to adjust the flame to make it lower. You have to remove everything from the zippo, including all the cottony stuff, and use something like needle-nosed pliers to pull the wick from the bottom. Don’t pull too hard or too fast or you will pull the wick out of the zippo completely, which will basically make the lighter useless. If you want a higher flame, use the needle-nosed pliers to pull the wick out from the top. Both are not difficult, but you have to be careful not to remove the wick completely.
