Can I apply for the rebate for insecticide used to spray adult locusts?
A11. The purpose of the rebate is to support optimal treatment activities by landholders before locust hoppers are able to fly and spread in large numbers across the state. DPI doesn’t recommend spraying flying, adult locusts as it is very difficult to do it safely and effectively. They will often move away from ground based equipment and also recolonise an area after spraying. However, individual landholders may make a business decision to spray flying locusts for the protection of valuable crops – but must obey withholding periods and follow directions on the label of chemicals used. The rebate is available for insecticide used to treat locusts at any stage subject to proper application and safe chemical use. For both hoppers and adult locusts, the rebate can only be claimed for insecticide used between 1 September 2010 and 31 May 2011, up to the maximum available rebate.
