Can I connect into my clients system to see their WattPlot screen?
As Intallact mentioned, their software requires that the end-user’s system be accessible using a static and routable IP address. Many users don’t have these types of addresses (there are fewer than 4 billion such addresses, and there are significantly more than 4 billion computers and other devices connected to the Internet at present) or may be required to pay additional money for such an address — if one is even available to the customer.
The greenMonitor solution is called a Client Initiated Connection. This allows the user running the greenMonitor Renewable Energy System monitoring software to contact a remote server, rather than having the remote server connect the customer’s (unaccessible) system.
Access to the system is controlled by both user names and passwords, and may be restricted to individual commands.
Yes you can. We call this piggy-backing on to their MATE data stream, and it is easy to do (even over the internet) so long as their computer can be accessed as a unique IP address. The client has to turn on the built-in WattPlot TCP/IP Server (which has optional passwords for access and for MATE command acceptance). You can then connect in to that server and see their MATE data in your own WattPlot screens. You don’t even need a licensed copy of WattPlot! Piggy-back monitoring can be done from the unlicensed WattPlot FirstMATE Viewer.
