Can I convert a stick welding power source to do Tig welding?

A. Stick welding and Tig welding are both Constant Current (CC) power sources, so the short answer is “Yes”. You can stick weld with a Tig machine without a problem. You can “scratch-start” Tig weld with a stick welder if you dont need to worry about tungsten contamination of the workpiece, or you can add a high-frequency starting accessory to a stick welder for stand-off starts. But beware when using a stick machine to do AC Tig for aluminum; the duty cycle of that machine should be reduced by half to allow for extra heat that will be created in the machine transformer by the AC Tig cycle when welding on aluminum.
