Most of DVD discs you bought from store are copyrighted and come with CSS protection. Also many of them are single side dual layer, which contains more than 4.7GB of data, so it will not fit into regular single layer 4.7GB DVD +/- R blank media. A lot of pirate copies on the market are made from a master that has been decrypted.
