Can i give my new born baby some light food or ice cream?

The short answer is no. as other people have pointed out 6 months is around the normal time frame inwhich a child begins intake of solid food. For the first few months of life, a baby gets all the intake it needs from formula or breast milk. You should go to your regularly scheduled check ups with your doctor inorder to chart the growth of your child. They will give you helpful information about the progress of your child. If you live in the USA: you can contact your local Womens, Infants and Childrens (WIC) division of the public health department. They have lots of useful information as well as referal services for new parents.

The thinking now is that they shouldn’t start weaning till they’re 6 months old, though 7 years ago when my son was a baby it was 4 months. However, at whatever age you decide to wean – and I’d stick to 6 months as that’s what they recommend now – ice cream is absolutely not suitable. To start with you just want to give them a tiny bit of baby rice, literally a spoon or two before one bottle and gradually build it up. Once your baby is used to this you can start giving vegetables. It’s better by far to make these yourself. You just need to cook a vegetable eg carrots and then puree it till completely smooth. You can freeze extra in ice-cube trays as 1 or 2 cubes is enough to start with. You should introduce one food at a time, ie if you start with carrots, only give carrots for a few days then introduce something else such as sweet potato for a few days then the next thing etc. After a few weeks you can add fish or meat, I did this by mixing a little in with potato. Don’t give the baby

No absolutely not. You could cause serious harm to your baby. 3 months is far too young to start on any food. Please speak to your Health Visitor or Doctor.

no ice cream! Babies that young can’t digest regular milk yet! …. If you want to give him food, mix some formula into some baby cereal and try that. Mashed banana would be ok too…. but remember, whenever you introduce a new food to your baby, you should wait 3-4 days before trying a new one. That’s to see if they have any allergic reaction. If you give him a bunch of new foods, you won’t know what he’s allergic to!

NO!! Don’t do this. He’s too young for foods yet. The doctor will give you the go ahead when to start on solids and it certainly won’t be with with “light food or ice cream.” You’ll get his whole digestive system out of whack and he’ll suffer for it.
