Can I have Blue Hippo tang/ blue tang in groups?
Short answer: No. Long answer: If your system is capable of housing multiples of any of the Tang (Surgeonfish more accurately) species, you’ll no doubt be aware of it. Typically, this species is housed in far too small a system on its own (personally, I think anything under around 6′ in length for one is ridiculous due to its method of locomotion and swimming habits), to keep multiples you’re talking about a tank well into the hundreds of gallons (think at least 400). These are one of the better candidates for multiples in terms of genus, whereas multiples of things like Acanthurus spp. is almost always going to end badly. Unless they’re mated, you’ll find much more success keeping at least a trio. Keeping them in multiples in a system that is too small will result in stress and likely the morbidity of all involved. Beautiful fish, but they do have requisites for their captive care that has to be met.
