Can I keep two female betta fish in the same tank?
I have had one of the female bettas since last May. I decided to move her to a bigger tank and also wanted to add another female to the tank as a companion for my first fish. However, now that I have put the two together, the fish that I’ve had longer is chasing the new one around and it appears that she is also biting her (I’m not sure if that’s even possible). The poor newer fish has been hiding behind shells and other things in the tank, and the older fish will swim for a few minutes and then “find” the little one hiding and she will just harass her. It’s a sad cycle and I was wondering if this just isn’t going to work or if there was a better way to make the transition. I considered putting the older fish into her old tank and setting the two tanks side by side (with the old fish in her old tank and the new fish in the bigger tank) and leaving it like that for a few days and then combining them.
