Can I load a dump from a SunOS 4.x SQL Server to a Solaris (SunOS 5.x) SQL Server?

Yes. You can do this in one of two ways: • As a remote dump between same-level SQL Servers; that is, dump from your 10.x SQL Server running on SunOS to a 10.x Backup Server running on Solaris. • As a local dump with a remote load; that is, if you have a 10.x SQL Server running under SunOS and an 11.0.x SQL Server running under Solaris, and you want to transfer your production databases from the SunOS to the Solaris server, dump from the SunOS server to one of its local tape devices, then do a remote load of that tape onto the Solaris server. One nice side effect of this method is that when you do the remote load, the loaded databases will upgrade automatically to the 11.0.x release level when you bring them online. Note You cannot transfer the master database by the second method. You can do it by the first method only if the pathnames in sysdevices, the fragments in sysusages, and the size of the master database are identical between the two platforms. In either case, you cannot dump
