Can I mount an Optoma HD65 projector on a camera tripod?

I thought that a tripod is suitable for every camera. This is why I looked for a good tripod under 100 on this website. I am going to take a photography course and for taking self-picture I’ll need a tripod, no doubts and I don’t want to make a mistake

I just recently purchased an Optoma HD65 projector and am trying to find some kind of inexpensive mount to use when I temporarily setup all my theater equipment. After seeing projector tables with telescoping legs selling for more than $120, I got the idea to use a camera tripod I already own. The threads match and the projector mount seems rather sturdy using the single thread attachment. Granted the projector doesn’t get knocked over, is there any other harm this could do to the projector?
