Can i not eating give my baby gas?

(Well done for breastfeeding by the way) I’m still BFeeding my 5 1/2 month old, and it is REALLY important to eat well, but I don’t think not eating as much could cause gas. My little one suffered with gas quite badly until about 4 month. I tried not eating garlic, onions, peppers because I’d heard they can cause baby gas but it seemed to make no difference what I ate. The only way it was helped was by using Infacol before every feed, not letting her fall asleep when feeding and making sure she was burped afterwards. If she is passing a lot of wind try laying her on her front across your legs and wiggling her bum. This helped my little one fart! lol. I’ve tried to get into the routine of feed, play, sleep, feed, play, sleep. Don’t worry this phase will pass as her digestive system develops, usually by about 6 months. Just hang in there! It’s also worth looking for an online breastfeeding forum where you can chat to other mums:

When breastfeeding, what you eat will also affect the baby. Certain foods may give the baby a tummy ache. i.e. cabbage, tomato sauce. Your baby also feels your “hurry” mood and is probably reacting to it. Give your baby at least 20 minutes of your time while feeding. Don’t talk on the phone or try to work while you feed. Do make a point of eating something for breakfast, a hard boiled egg, a small yoghert or something similar.

The short answer to this question is NO – you do not need to maintain a perfect diet in order to provide quality milk for your baby. In fact, research tells us that the quality of a mother’s diet has little influence on her milk. Nature is very forgiving – mother’s milk is designed to provide for and protect baby even in times of hardship and famine. A poor diet is more likely to affect the mother than her breastfed baby. It’s common to hear women say that they want to wean (or not breastfeed at all) because they miss drinking coffee, or want to have an occasional glass of wine, or don’t l
