Can I really grow that much on 6 inches of rain? How important is stored water to final yield?

Stored water can often be as much as 1/3 of the crops total water requirement. Similar rainfall amounts with little stored soil moisture will have less benefit than those areas with high soil moisture conditions. Soil textures with more clay have a higher moisture holding capacity and greater potential yields under low rainfall scenarios than a lighter soil.
