Can I substitute margarine spread for butter in cakes??
You can…I wouldn’t recommend it because it just won’t taste the same (mine never did!) but you certainly can and it will be acceptable. People have been doing it for years. In fact, until I was out of the house and on my own I didn’t know that butter was so much better for baking. (All we ever had growing up was margarine!) I would recommend a non-salted kind for cakes though that may be hard to find. If you want to use what you already have, just use it and don’t add extra salt that may be called for in the recipe. The margarine that you mention is basically vegetable oil while butter is an animal fat type. Regardless, it should be fine. Good Luck!
