Can I use a New Zealand or Australian drivers licence in the USA?

As long as it is a full licence, you will have no problem in using your Australian and/or New Zealand drivers licence in the USA for the period you mention. I have driven many times in the USA using my New Zealand licence and have never encountered any problems with law enforcement or rental companies. No international permit is required. I am from New Zealand and so I don’t know in what format the Australian licence is issued. If the Australian licence does not have your picture on it, then I would advise you to carry another document as well (your passport is best) so that you have something with your picture on it to show a traffic officer if necessary. American police tend not to like IDs that don’t have pictures. However, I have always found that the second American traffic officers realise you are a foreign holidaymaker they become very relaxed and friendly. Enjoy your holiday!! It is a fascinating country (the good and the bad) and, one on one, Americans are among the friendlies
