Can I use a UK teawaker in other countries?
UK appliances work without modification in countries with identical voltage and hertz. See Voltage Valet for details. This probably accounts for the fact that Goblin and Hawkins exported many teawakers to Australia. The Swan Teasmade DO1-P1 will work in such countries, but at present it does not have certification outside the UK and there are presently no distributors abroad. Between 1976 and 1978, Goblin 860 Teasmades were available in the USA and spare parts were available from BSR Macdonald. However, at present US teawakers are not available so we receive many enquiries about running UK teawakers in the USA. There are two problems with this: Voltage and Hertz. Both need to be resolved in some way. Voltage UK voltage is different from the USA. In American houses with a 120 volt supply you will need to use a transformer to step up the voltage.
